How Does CMBS™ Work?

When you drive in a Honda with the Collision Mitigation Braking System™, a high-resolution front mounted camera scans the road ahead, and millimeter-wave radar constantly assesses the distance between your vehicle and whatever lies in its path. The technology can detect both vehicles and pedestrians, along with other objects and obstacles.

The Collision Mitigation Braking System™ operates alongside Forward Collision Warning™ in order to mitigate or eliminate the risk of a collision. Together, they operate in three stages:

1. If the radar or the camera shows that a collision is possible, Forward Collision Warning™ provides audio and visual warnings to make the driver aware of the risk.
2. At the same time, the Collision Mitigation Braking System™ springs into action, gently applying the brakes to slow your vehicle. At this stage, most drivers will apply the brakes directly as well.
3. In the event that it is necessary, the Collision Mitigation Braking System™ will apply the brakes with greater pressure, thereby slowing or even stopping the vehicle before it can make contact with whatever triggered the warnings.

• Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) uses millimeter-wave radar in order to improve on traditional cruise control. ACC will maintain your preferred speed when there’s an open road and adjust your speed automatically in response to the presence of other drivers.
• The Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS) keeps you centered in your lane as you traverse the highways near Bridgewater and Poughkeepsie. Steering is automatically adjusted if you move too close to the line.
• The Road Departure Mitigation System (RDM) works hand-in-hand with your LKAS to prevent you from going over the edge of the road.
• Traffic Sign Recognition (TSR) scans the side of the road for traffic information, including speed limit signs, and lets you know when there are changes.
